AIRA provides its members with a vital source of up-to-date information regarding investor relations best practice, trends and research.

Further to our recent Member Update, I am delighted to advise that AIRA will be hosting a webinar to discuss ASIC’s recently released Regulatory Guide 247 and the implications for listed entities annual reports and operating & financial reviews.

As we have communicated previously, it is ASIC's desire that the guide promote more meaningful information and analysis for investors. RG-247 also includes guidance on: 

• appropriate standards of disclosure through the inclusion of worked examples;
• the use of the 'unreasonable prejudice' exemption from disclosing specific business strategies and prospects; and
• presentation of the analysis and narrative relating to operations and financial position.

AIRA is delighted to provide its Members with an archive webcast that provides an overview and transcript of ASX’s recently released updates to Guidance Note 8 of the Listing Rules and the implications for listed entities.  Throughout the 30 minute webcast David Barnett, general manager, listings, Australian Securities Exchange and Quentin Digby, partner, Herbert Smith Freehills talk through some of the key changes including:  reference to “immediacy”; social media; earnings surprises / guidance; and, trading halts.  AIRA would be happy to respond to any members questions.  Questions can be asked through the Online Discussion Forum – forum.aira.org.au.

Large, medium and small Australian companies could benefit from being able to issue debt to Australian retail and institutional investors (that is, corporate bonds) in a cost-effective way. Currently, the process for issuing corporate bonds to retail investors is costly and onerous compared to other avenues for raising funds as the law requires the issuing of a full prospectus and directors are subject to personal liability for the content of the prospectus. Richard Nelson and Will Rayner provide and overivew give practial tips on dealing with credit rating agencies and the importance of S&P in this process.

David Barnett, general manager listings (Sydney) at the ASX talks about the recent Whitehaven Coal media hoax and, in particular, regulation surrounding monitoring and using social media. Co-presenting on the webcast is David Coe from Coe Communications who looks at global social media trends.  The webcast is free to AIRA members and available for purchase to non-members.
