In an age of information, the ability to materially change value perceptions places IR professionals at the very heart of value creation and value perception, making us one of the key strategic value resources within a company. This year's conference explores how IROs can collectively and individually make the most of this exciting multiplier opportunity.
A couple of years ago, Darren Shirlaw introduced us to the first part of this equation when he spoke at our conference. Perceived value, he said, was the result of profit (P) x multiple(M). Too many companies, he believes, ignore how they can influence the multiple in their favour.
That role, we believe, increasingly falls to IR professionals because value that is not fully communicated will probably never be fully realised. And it raises new opportunities to communicate your organisation’s multiple, relative to others and to the sector, as a value determinant by bridging the gap between how investors evaluate worth and how management teams go about generating it.
A new sense of value for the work that IROs do? Inevitable, if we get this right.
